" Due to lousy weather one of our party could only stay for about an hour, so we regretfully skipped the starters and headed straight for the mains. One duck confit, and two pave steaks (it was too cold outside to contemplate anything lighter).

My fourth star is for doing what was asked for with the two steaks (which included checking with my pregnant friend that she was clear that 'medium' would involve a bit of pink stuff in the middle). My 'very rare' was rightly interpreted as sealed to perfection on the outside, and moo-ing in the middle "

" At last Sutton has a restaurant that's worth travelling to. So often we'll jump on a train to get to a good restaurant, now people should travel to Sutton for this excellent French Brasserie.

There's a great menu with choices for the more adventurous (the duck heart, gizzard and foie gras salad was delicious) as well as for the less adventurous (my wife's egg cocotte & smoked haddock was also delicious). Mains are good, my cote de boef was outstanding and the cassoulet, although appearing small in it's casserole for one, more than filled the plate twice over.

Service is quick and efficient and the overall bill was exactly as expected for this kind of food "

" Brasserie Vacherin is a little piece of France right in the heart of Sutton. While it's not a restaurant diners will cross the capital for, it is a welcome addition to an area otherwise lacking in upmarket independent restaurants. Caterer will certainly be back. "
